Local Minima and Local Maxima - Dopamine / Depression Effects

Many often the struggles in life are similar to the local minima/maxima we find using gradient descent to find our positive thoughts to move forward in life. Ever minimum point appears like a global minimum and every happiness appears like a global maximum. As we move forward in next step we understand its just a local minima/maxima not a global one.

Same applies to our thoughts of low and high points of life. Continue to rewire your thoughts, emotions and plans to compute the never give up, self-resilient and the best network that you can keep your mind in stateful, observing and mindful state.

A Short Story - Be Good

This was bound to happen

Once a highly successful businessman, running a health insurance company was getting ready to go to his office. When he reached into his car and opened a door, a stray dog sleeping under his car suddenly came out and bit on his leg! The businessman got very angry and quickly picked up a few rocks and threw at the dog but none hit the dog. The dog ran away.

Upon reaching his office, the businessman calls a meeting of his managers and during the meeting he puts the anger of dog on them. The managers also get upset by the anger of their boss and they put their anger to the employees working under them. The chain of this reaction keeps going till the lower level of employees and finally, the anger reaches to the office peon.

Now, there was no one working under the peon! So, after the office time is over, he reaches his home, and wife opens the door. She asked him, “Why are you so late today?” The peon upset due to anger threw at him by the staff, gives one slap to his wife! And says, “I didn’t go to the office to play football, I went to work so don’t irritate me with your stupid questions!”

So, now the wife got upset that she got a scolding plus a slap for no reason. She puts her anger on his son who was watching tv and give him a slap, “This is all you do, you have no interest in studying! Turn off the TV now!”

The son gets upset now! He walks out of his house and sees a dog passing by looking at him. He picks up a rock and hits the dog in his anger and frustration. The dog, getting hit by a rock, runs away barking in pain.

This was the same dog that bit the businessman early morning.

Moral: This was bound to happen. Reap as one has sown. This is how the life works. While we all worry about hell and heaven based on our deeds, we should concentrate more on how we are living and behaving. Do good, Good will come, Do Wrong, Wrong will come.

Emotional Wellness - Day #8 - Decisions Vs Time


Decisions always have a logic, rational, emotional perspective. Expressing things in anger/sadness / emotional also is an expression of disappointment/discontent. Any decision that we take today can be looked up as +10 years later how is this going to impact when I look back.

Thinking mindset is more important than emotional mindset. It's highly difficult to accept anything without thinking. In the Indian mindset, it is totally difficult to understand the parent's expectations.

To draw the line for expectations/ perspectives/emotions is more important to allow the self to be more rational/logical.

Keep the learning, thinking and the mind always open for the growth-oriented mindset.

Emotional Wellness - Day #7

My biggest asset, wealth in my life is my conscience, life, and my spirit. I have certainly seen the dead end of life and the lowest moments of depression. This life is certainly a blessing to show kindness exists. I dream to make big in AI for a social cause. All that you have for life is your dreams and working to make your dreams come true.

I am at a point where I cannot let anything be too emotional or logical. Only when the wounds go too deep you know how much pain you can withstand. Certainly, all one can have in life is a true self-acceptance, self-aware self.

The journey continues towards learning, knowledge, and kindness. Let no one hurt you and don't hurt anyone. Have the empathy and kindness and the ever better spirit to do well personally and professionally.

Calmness in mind - Relentless Fighting Spirit - Healthy body are the best one can have in life.

Emotional Wellness #Day 5 - Meditation

Oh Yea, All my thoughts posted are my personal opinion and my inference from my experience. 

Meditation / calmness / focussed quietness. If we look quiet intuitively anything that we do slowly will make us look deeply into it, check for the finer details of the picture.

The same applies when we do things like meditation or any slow-paced activity it slows down our regular pace. We will observe the usual things in a more granular perspective. 

In other terms, When we drive slow we get to observe/witness things around us. Similarly, when we stay quiet/calm and remain in empty mind it will witness chaos for some time until the dust settles down. Many things around us can be controlled in our emotions/feelings. 

That's why we hear the biggest achievement is conquering self!!!

This below video shows a Buddhist monk (flying monk). It takes time to pause, look at self and understand our limits, strengths and becoming self-aware self.




Does being with a group of friends help me feel good?
Does working long hours help me feel good?
Does going back to our relationships make us feel good?

All of these are mere substitutes and placeholders in the context of time to pause the moment. The real empty state of mind is to pause this moment and see us in context of the time the emotions/ acts/thoughts/actions within ourself.

Time is a fixed dimension. Our actions vary depending on our emotions. In a way, every state of action is not a deep thought but rather a transient moment of jumping between emotions, without an end to the loop. It's an infinite loop of endless emotions of expectations - disappointments - again expectations. How far we do this? Until the last moment of the breath.

Let's stop it here, The time is fixed, We can only do a certain amount of things in the run of time vs life. The higher reason/purpose / to look beyond ourself and see ourself as an entity not as a permanent thing is more important.

Instead of planning 100 things, It is better to do 10 things with utmost attention and care. Slow down, pause life, see the moment, seize the moment, plan the life. Live Well, Live like you are known for good deeds and words.

Emotional Wellness #Day #4 - Focus - Driving - Neural Networks - Mindfulness

Driving has a lot of correlation to Life, Neural Networks. The optimal speed to arrive, where to slow down, where to overtake, balancing energy to drive consistently till the end.

Life battles can be related to unexpected vehicles issues/punctures. Some repairs make us stand still for some time. Yet, We continue to go forward in facing the challenges and continuing the rest of the journey. This life should be useful and an example to look at us for kindness, hard work, and empathy. More than money a sense of achievement, a purpose to look up to.

Do everything with love, share the knowledge. Hoping to make a big impact in AI for a social cause. Driving is exactly the same as meditation. Focus, Attention, Consistency everything matters.

Day #1 - Emotional Wellness

After all the days of life, The moment I felt I need to know more about myself. This comes out from reading Geoff Hinton Papers. From Psychology to physiology to Artificial Neural Networks.

We know our thinking, perceptions, perspectives, emotions, reactions, experiences. How all of this is bonded together to create the happiness perspective is all that we call emotional wellness. Probably the empty space in mind or creating a pause in your life to let the emptiness result in a hunch, creating some breakthrough thoughts, simplifying our perspectives those are what we call as meditation and spirituality.

Every great motivational speaker/personality Jay Shetty, Rupi Kaur, Lilly Sigh or any familiar names that pop up for our search for motivation shows us their life and the turnaround from the point of depression to self-gratification, self-awareness, and fulfillment.

Rather than being more emotional / to understand the engineering of your thinking / feeding the right thinking patterns / extracting optimism from the experiences / continuously breaking our thoughts flow in a certain direction and allowing us to experience the different emotional levels are the key for self-aware self.

A small set of experiments, perspectives, reading, research papers I intend to share going forward as part of my self-learning.

The Art of Learning the mind


Mind like Deep Learning builds its memories, emotions based on its experiences. The memories turn into the mood, temperament depending on the duration of the life of emotions. A strong trauma or failure prepares a long memory that remains in us and makes us continue living in the memories.

To break the habit depends on understanding the network of thoughts and breaking the thoughts by applying the right activation functions. Gradually we also need to alter the inputs and the weight (thought) factor to change the output.

To break the network we need to apply the reverse psychology thought, Do something that creates opposite reaction. Our brain is just a collection of events, perspectives, and thoughts.

Feeding the brain with knowledge, making it think is more important than judging. This is all what people do in meditation. Another way to look at it as the engineering of our brain to understand it to handle things better.

The dark night with Dying Battery and High Spirits


I am posting this note in a race against dying battery. After a lot of failures in 2017/2018. Today is a day to remember for the motivation and perseverance to continue to focus rigorously on Analytics.
Apart from personal ups and downs, emotional issues, there is a constant battle to live up to our dreams and principles.

I am indebtly thankful to many kind people in my circle.

Stay focused and continue going forward

Midnight Thoughts

Certain things in life need to be handled at a personal level to safeguard our emotional and mental health

Do not seek validation from the world - Many times our decisions may conflict with people/relationships around us. We cannot ask for an explanation nor accept people opinions. For whatever decisions you take after clear thoughts, restrict yourself to focus on moving forward. We live for a short time. We cannot wait for people to understand us always

Keep Moving forward - The end maybe tomorrow or today. The unpredictability does also inform us to make use of the remaining time. It's better to plan the rest of the time to make the most out of the remaining time

Resilience - A lot of mental strength comes from solitude, learning and maintaining private space for yourself. Build the best version of yourself every single day

Critical thinking

I have always been dependent on someone at any point in my life. I still remember depending on my dad for his comments on studies, debating, arguing for marks/ranks. As every Indian mom handling both home chores and kids was always a challenge for my mom. It's all like growing up from a middle-class family. School tuition marks grades. A few moral stories and importance of education did help to continue to focus on education. But lately, I understand critical thinking is more important than test-taking skills. I really admire Geoff Hinton for his decades on focus on AI. I would rather lean on critical lifetime thinking than being a Ph.D. or publishing papers.Emotionally too we need to be independent. I felt this dependency on people always made me keep someone in my circle to fit the emotional needs. Getting the freedom in life to be totally alone without anyone to look up is a blessing. It took a lot of time and energy to be totally alone emotionally and practically.

Being logical and the emotional is a critical trait. It takes years and ages to master oneself. We need continuous focus and persistent efforts to be in a really self-sustained mode.

Focus, passion, relentless focus on learning and keeping the end goal in mind is super critical to be good and best on what you do. Becoming Buddha in corporate life is not easy but focus on truly independent in everything and still have the critical thinking ability matters.

Time to go back and start learning. Laser focus, determination, time-bound goals and inner peace matters in life.

Ride Sharing - Lessons

Today I got a ride to work. He was in the Late 20s driving past 13 years. He was aggressive, fast, alert driver. Alongside he was watching Telugu tv programs, sharing his experience. 

Riding for many years makes them quick to decide, overtake, take the risky overtaking that novice drivers would avoid.

The same applies in Coding, Life. Some coding and learning we do today might simplify reduce our time for future projects which we do. 

Today's emotional problems, the loss makes us prepared to address similar issues for our family, friends. Pain makes you stronger, Experiments give you experience and experience gives you wisdom. Learn from the Experience of Life. Come out of the comfort zone, accept this life as a blessing, accept the failures with an open heart, Optimism on failure, reality over emotions, do not glorify failures, Simplify them into lessons.

For every negative emotion, we face there is a positive signal present in the emotion. Learn to extract the signal of optimism. This damaged life with experiments might turn into a lesson for like-minded people.

Code - Keep Coding

After a long time, working on some ML work with a deadline. Seems every few months the packages/code fixes need to be done. Yea, ML training takes time...Up today long day but yea learning is only when you stay awake and meet your plans, goals.

Quiet office, Peaceful atmosphere @ 12.40AM...That's why more productive late nights, You can focus and work for long hours. Remember my days of weekend complete night-outs / 24hours deployments. Those long days and nights made me what I am today.

The lonely night


Last night was much on the highway with my colleagues. It's now a consistent pattern of driving. In a way driving provides more satisfaction seeing the world and does provide an outlook to the world.

Today, Again back to home chores. Sometimes we hear perspectives which give us a quick transformation. After a long time spoke to one of my best pals.

Certain things which did strike me are

  • For things which didn't work, finding reasons for it is meaningless as anyways, it didn't work
  • Put energy on doing new things than on failed things
  • Always give space to someone who finds every reason to travel with you in spite of obstacles
  • Instead of focusing on GATE I am going to re-focus on few more Deep Mind papers / Core ML Research papers and understand them
  • Need to do more extensive tensorflow coding, Planning to experiment with DIY kits in coming days
Focus on sunshine, Have a brighter tomorrow....

#30's and Life

30's and Life has a lot more positivity. It's more independent than 20's financial, Emotionally it's a big learning curve. Being Single makes you emotionally independent.

At times there is a distraction between goals vs people. Many short-lived relationships make us feel, you are good until someone better comes between the two.
Letting go people/parents opinions/friends advice becomes part of life. Higher studies and Gate are like going and learning formulas to crack the fill the blanks of GATE. This method is important but again I feel this time i Ian use to read a few more research papers.

Learning cannot be quantified based on choose the best answers. Learning has to be based on experimentation / failures / different techniques that was learnt during the experiments. Unless we move out of question-based to experience based we will never learn anything in the context.

These days my schedule shifted to a night own schedule. Long drives / Long walks / Reading / A bit of solitude and loneliness. Embarace Life, Move on, A lot of dreams and a lot of hope.

Let the hope drive peace and hardwork.

Emotional Intelligence can be interpreted in several ways
  • Self-awareness - Our beliefs and values, it's working on growth-oriented mindset 
  • Empathy - Understand your duty vs choice in managing parents and relationships
  • Communication - Effective / Frequent communication, Willing to work on finding meaningful solution matters
  • Face the truth - Accept the consequences of decisions rather than blaming anyone. Sometimes we end up in wrong situations for our choice of people/ kindness/empathy. Playing with people emotion is a hard game. The more you play the worse it will end
  • Regret and Move on - A period of regret/retrospection is important to understand failures and learn from it
  • Connect with the right people - Connect with people with similar values/ mindset/perspective, We live for a limited circle. Having the right relationship will help us do well in our life.
  • Never Ending Struggle - Balancing between health, having a good lifestyle, living life vs winning battles, Enjoying the moment with the best of what we can do, Leaving the past to grave, Planting the seeds of peace and happiness for future, Watering it and be patient for a beautiful present and future

Routine Everyday - Relook Life

The typical routine for me recent days is

  • Reading ML papers
  • Experimenting Code
  • Bit of project handling and tasks
  • Bit of personal time (Reading)
  • Driving
  • Foodie of UberEats (Almost stopped cooking)
  • Some sleepless / self-questioning moments

It's a different feeling when you look at your phone and have no calls / no messages and no one is waiting to hear from you. Probably this is what prepares someone personally and emotionally to a newer version of self.

This life is a journey and a succession of battles. Focus / Re-Focus on life and reset priorities going forward.

The past has to be buried. Risks have to be taken, Future has to be built.

The fundamental flaws of Education

I am working on learning for GATE. More than concepts you need to solve the problems. I don't remember any single day focussing in details of those detail level problems.

I have a few challenges
  • Reading research papers understand AI / ML
  • Daily work + Coding
  • Experimenting AI / ML Projects
  • Logical pet projects
  • Other personal issues / Life perspective
On top it problem solving GATE question is a challenge. I am still trying hard for it.

Education has to be evaluated based on
  • Learning Concept
  • Doing some projects
  • Connecting all the different subjects
  • More experimentation based than written exams / solving like a formula
It takes years of research and passion to make something big. Focusing on formula-based learning vs experimentation based both are two different strategies.

I rather believe learning is continuous and does not depend on finding the best answers or recollecting formula. Unfortunately, with so much competition these are ways to filter out candidates.

Let the struggle keep going, Let the knowledge keep growing!!!

Money is not everything but money and health (physical and emotional) drive rest of your life plans
When Life is time bound, your decisions are time bound you are always in pressure to decide
Its Okay, Some lives can never be understood
Learning for #startup, Aiming for #phd, Open to new relationships and having minimal damage from temporary people in life are #priorities
